Description:
The Access Physics course is intended for students wishing to take the Association's Dispensing course, but who have not gained the appropriate grade in physics.

The course contains the following subjects: units of measurement, motion, linear kinematics; force, mass, acceleration, Newton's laws of motion; Newton's laws of motion, law of conservation of momentum; combining forces, turning effects of forces, Hooke's law; work, energy and power; density and pressure; kinetic theory of matter; ideal gases and the gas laws; heat capacity, latent heat; transfer of heat, conduction, convection and radiation; light, reflection of light; refraction of light, total internal reflection; lenses, ray diagrams, the eye and the camera; wave motion, the wave equation, some wave properties; electro-magnetic spectrum, colour; electric charge; current electricity, circuits and resistance; power and energy, mains electricity; magnetism and electro-magnets; meters and motors, Fleming's left-hand rule; generators and transformers, Fleming's right-hand rule, Faraday's law, Lenz's law; electrons; radioactivity, atoms and nuclei; revision and specimen examination questions.


Assessment may include: Coursework, examinations.

Entry requirements:
Five full GCE or GCSE passes (eg grades A, B or C) including English and a science based subject but do not hold a pass in either mathematics or physics.

Administrative information:
The duration of this course is 24 weeks.

This course commences in February and July.

Those who attain the satisfactory standard will be exempted the requirement for the science based subject before commencement of the Dispensing course.
